PREFACE This manual describes the operating precautions and basic operations relating to the CHC-S9045 digital photo printer. In the remainder of this manual, the digital photo printer is called the machine. Before operating the machine, read this manual and thoroughly understand the proper methods of installing and operating the machine.

SECTION 1. FOR SAFE MACHINE USAGE This operating manual is intended for the user to operate the machine safely. Before operating the machine, read this operating manual and the manual accompanying the machine and thoroughly understand its proper installing and operating methods. ◆This operating manual includes the precautions for avoiding the possible hazards.
SECTION 1. FOR SAFE MACHINE USAGE Operating Environment and Installation Strictly observe the following precautions to ensure safe use of this color printer: CAUTION: Do not allow children to touch the machine or to tamper with any cables. Failure to observe this precaution could result in injury and/or electrical shock.
After this, please contact your product dealer or Shinko Electric's product maintenance service or sales representative. Continued use of the dropped or damaged product may result in fire and/or electrical shock.

FOR SAFE MACHINE USAGE Handling the Consumable Parts/Materials and Printed Photos Observe the following precautions when handling ink ribbons, print paper, and printed photos: NOTICE: When handling print paper ・Use the manufacturer-specified paper. ・Store the paper in a horizontal position. ・Avoid exposure to moisture, and store paper horizontally in a place free from direct sunlight.

SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND SETUP Procedure from Unpacking to Setup This section lays down the procedure from unpacking this product to setting it up for operation. If you have not yet read Section 1, FOR SAFE MACHINE USAGE, first return to Section 1 and read it before going into this section (Section 2).

INSTALLATION AND SETUP Functions of Each Section Name of component Function When the cover of this storage unit is open, it is possible to replace the paper with new paper, or Paper storage unit in case of paper congestion, to remove any fragments of the paper, or to conduct other maintenance operations.

SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND SETUP Supply side 4 . Set a new ink ribbon in the ink ribbon cassette that supply side of the ribbon (that is, the side where the new ribbon is wound) and the geared side face in the directions shown in the photo.

SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND SETUP 6 . While holding the grip of the ink ribbon cassette, fully set the cassette in the printer with the supply side of the ink ribbon facing toward you. 7 . Close the ribbon cassette cover by holding the center top edge of the cover and fully pushing the top edge upward.

SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND SETUP Setting Flange Size 1 . By pulling the knob (green) on of the gray Knob flange, the lock will be released. After releasing the lock, remove the gray flange. Flange 2 . Push the stopper of the black flange with shaft inside and remove the core flange.

SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND SETUP 4 . Push the stopper of the gray flange inside and remove the core flange. 5 . Set the size indication (L, PC) on the core flange to the arrow on the flange and insert the core flange until it clicks.
SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND SETUP Setting Print Paper and the Ink Ribbon Identification Card 1.First, collect paper into the paper supply section of the printer as follows: If the printer contains paper, press the PAPER REWIND button operations panel. The paper will be collected automat- ically.

Hold removed ribbon identification card so that the printed surface of the card faces to the left, and insert the card in the direction of the arrow.

SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND SETUP WARNING: If this product is not to be used for a long period, be sure to disconnect the power cord from the power outlet to ensure safety. WARNING: Avoid connecting the power cord to any power outlet being used for other purposes.
SECTION 2. INSTALLATION AND SETUP Connecting the USB Cable Connect the USB cable between your personal computer and the USB connector at the rear left of the printer. Connect the USB cable properly. NOTICE: Before disconnecting the USB cable from the printer, make sure that the printer is in a ready status for printing.

SECTION 3. OPERATIONS PANEL USAGE Power Switch The power switch is located at the rear left of the printer. A press of the "|" section turns power on, and a press of the "o" section turns power off. ○ | Operations Panel As shown below, one button and five LED indicators are arranged on the operations panel.
SECTION 3. OPERATIONS PANEL USAGE LED Indicators The LED indicators light to indicate the states listed below. Name of the Color Description POWER Orange Lights to indicate that power is on. Lights to indicate that printing is READY Green possible. PAPER Lights to indicate that a printer error has occurred.
In such a case, immediately turn off the power switch and after disconnecting the power cable from the power outlet, please contact your product dealer or Shinko Electric's product maintenance service or sales representative. CAUTION: Wiping with a volatile solvent such as benzene or thinner, or the application of an insecticide causes discoloration, cracking, or other defects.

SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING In Case of Paper Congestion 1 . Turn off the power switch. 2 . Open the paper storage unit at the front bottom of the printer by lifting the lever at the bottom of the storage unit and pulling the unit out to the front.

SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING 4 . Cut any wrinkled or printed sections of the paper using scissors. If wrinkled or printed paper is used as it is, paper congestion will recur or the ribbon will break. 5 .Remove the paper from the paper flange assembly as directed in Section 2, INSTALLATION AND SETUP.

SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING 7 .Set the paper in the paper flange assembly as directed in Section 2, INSTALLATION AND SETUP. 8 . Once again, set the paper as directed in Section 2, INSTALLATION AND SETUP. NOTICE: When setting the paper again, securely hold down the leading end of the paper by hand so that no take-up slack occurs.
SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING In Case of a Power Interruption during Printing If power is interrupted during printing, the thermal head will remain pressed against the rubber platen roller and if this state is maintained for a long time, the platen roller may deform.

SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING 4 . Remove the clogging paper. Use the troubleshooting procedure in this section (Section 5) to remove the paper. 5 . Close the paper storage unit by inserting it into the printer until you have heard a "click" sound. NOTICE: Do not open the ribbon cassette cover with power turned off during printing.
SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING In Case of a Paper-Loading Failure If a small deal of paper is set, it may not be loaded into the printer properly. In this case, troubleshoot using the following procedure: 1 . SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING 7. Turn the tip (about 10cm) of the paper toward the direction of the arrow and pull it tight. 8. Close the paper storage unit by inserting it into the printer until you have heard a "click" sound.
SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING In case, the Ink ribbon has been torn 1. Open the ribbon cassette cover and, remove the Ink ribbon cassette from the printer. Cut the edge of the Ink ribbon at the geared side (gray color) by scissors. Geared bobbin (gray) 3.

SECTION 5. TROUBLESHOOTING 4. Stick the Ink ribbon at the supply side to the geared side ribbon by the tape. Notice: Make sure to stick the Ink ribbon straightly without any rumple. If not, it can be the cause of the problem during printing.
