Maintenance
Note:
If the new belt slips, examine the
pulley for wear. A good pulley will
have gaps between the flat parts of the
pulley and the belt (Fig. 34). If any of
the gaps are missing, the pulley is
worn out and the belt will not have
good contact on the sides and will slip.
If the pulley is worn out, remove the
two set screws and pulley, then replace
the pulley with a new one.

Replacing the Traction Belt

1.
Raise the front of the machine and hold with
jack stands.
2.
Disconnect in–line wire connector from wire
harness to electric clutch.
3.
Remove mower drive belt; refer to mower

Operator's Manual.

4.
Remove left front engine mounting bolt securing
clutch retainer to frame (Fig. 35). Unhook
retainer from clutch and remove retainer.
5.
Unhook tension spring from side of frame
(Fig. 35).
6.
Loosen pivot bolt enough to remove traction belt
from the drive pulley and clutch.
7.
Install new belt around clutch and drive pulley.

Torque pivot bolt to 35-40 ft. lb. (47-54 N m).
Install tension spring between idler arm and
frame bracket (Fig. 35).
9.
Hook clutch retainer into clutch and secure to
frame with engine mounting bolt. Torque engine
mounting bolt to 170-220 in. lb. (19-24 N m).
10. Connect clutch in–line wire connector to wire
harness.
