Servicing the Precleaner Filter
1. Replace the precleaner filter if it is damaged.
2. Wash the precleaner filter in warm water with
detergent (Figure 44).
3. Rinse the precleaner until all traces of detergent are
eliminated.
4. Saturate the precleaner in oil and squeeze out all
excess oil.
Servicing the Air Filter Element
Important: Never attempt to clean the air filter
element.
Do not clean the air filter element, replace it.
When servicing the air filter element, check the base for
any damage. Ensure the rubber seal on the air filter
element is not worn or damaged.
Installing the Filters
Important: To prevent engine damage, always
operate the engine with both air filters and cover
installed.

1. If installing new filters, check each filter for shipping
damage. Do not use a damaged filter.
2. Install the precleaner (ensure it is oiled) onto the air
filter element (Figure 44).
3. Install the air filter element onto the base (Figure 44).
Ensure that it is fully seated.
4. Install the air filter element cover and secure it with
the element cover nut (Figure 44).
5. Install the cover and secure it with the cover nut.
Servicing the Heavy Duty Air
Cleaner
Service Interval: Every 250 hours—Replace the
primary air filter (heavy duty air
cleaner). (more often in dusty or
sandy conditions)
Every 250 hours—Check the safety
air filter (heavy duty air cleaner).
Every 500 hours—Replace the safety
air filter (heavy duty air cleaner).
Note: Check the filters more frequently if the operating
conditions are extremely dusty or sandy.
Removing the Filters
1. Disengage the PTO, move the motion control levers
to the neutral locked position, and set the parking
brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Release the latches on the air cleaner and pull the air
cleaner cover off the air cleaner body (Figure 45).
