Recording
Problem
Image will not appear on the
screen.
"SET THE TIME ZONE,
DATE AND TIME" appears on
the screen.
Pressing the start/stop button
will not start recording.
Camcorder will not focus.
A vertical light bar appears on
the screen.
Viewfinder picture is blurred.
Sound is distorted or
recorded in a lower volume
than the actual volume.

Cause
Camcorder is not set to
CAMERA mode.
Time zone, date and time are
not set.
Backup battery is exhausted.
Battery pack is inserted the
wrong way.
Camcorder is turned off.
Cassette is not loaded.
Tape reached the end
("
END" flashes on the
screen).
Cassette is protected ("
flashes on the screen).
Camcorder is set to a mode
other than the CAMERA
mode.
Autofocus does not work on
that subject.
Viewfinder is not adjusted.
Lens is dirty.
Bright light in a dark scene
may cause a vertical light bar
(smear) to appear. This is not
a malfunction.

When recording near loud
sound (such as fireworks,

Solution
Set the camcorder to
CAMERA mode.
Set the time zone, date and
time.
Replace the backup battery
and reset the time zone, date
and time.
Insert the backup battery with
the + side facing outward and
set the time zone, date and
time.
Turn on the power.
Load a cassette.
Rewind the tape or replace
the cassette.

protect switch.
Set the camcorder to
CAMERA mode.
Focus manually.
Adjust the viewfinder with the
dioptric adjustment lever.
