Starting and Driving
Engine
Shutting Down
After full load operation, idle the engine
for 3 - 5 minutes before shutting off to
allow the oil and coolant to remove heat
from many parts, especially the
turbocharger.
To stop the engine, turn the ignition
switch to OFF.
Engine Operation
Do not operate the engine at
full throttle below peak torque
rpm for more than 30 seconds
Allow the engine to idle 3 to 5
minutes before shutting it off.
Shut the engine off if the oil
pressure
warning
coolant temperature warning
light comes on.
Continuous operation with
low coolant temperature
below 60°C or high coolant
temperature above 100°C
can damage the engine.
Most failures give an early warning.
Look and listen for changes in
performance,
appearance that can indicate service or
engine repair is needed.
Some changes to look for are
Engine misfire
Excessive smoke
light
or
Vibration
Loss of power
Unusual engine noise
An increase in engine noise
Fuel, oil or coolant leaks
An
consumption
CAUTION
sound,
engine
increase
in
fuel
Sudden changes in engine
operating temperature or oil
pressure.
Check List Before Moving Off
Check that the air pressure
reading on both gauges is not
in the red sector.
Check that the engine is idling
satisfactorily.
See that no warning lights are
showing except the handbrake.
