Attaching theBattery C ables
California Proposition 65
Batteryposts,terminals,and relatedaccessoriescontainlead and
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto the Stateof Californiato
cause cancerand reproductiveharm.Wash handsafter handling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE (Red)
wireto its terminalfirst, followedby the NEGATIVE (Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycables on yourequipmentmay
havebeen left disconnected from the terminalsat the factory.To
connectthe batterycables,proceedas follows:
NOTE: Thepositive b attery terminal ismarked Pos. (+).The negative b attery
terminal ismarked Neg. (-).
1. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe positivebattery
terminaland attachthe redcable to the positivebatteryterminal
(+)with the bolt and hexnut. See Figure1.
2. Removethe plasticcover, i fpresent, f romthenegative batteryterminal
and attachthe blackcableto thenegativebatteryterminal(-)
with the boltand hex nut. See Figure1.

3. Position the redrubberbootoverthepositivebatteryterminal t o help
protectit from corrosion.
NOTE: Ifthebattery isputintoservice a fterthedate shown ontopofbattery,
charge t hebattery asinstructed in theService & Maintenance section o fthis
manual prior tooperating t hetractor.
Shipping Brace Removal
Makesurethe ridingmower'sengineis off, removetheignitionkey,
and set the parkingbrakebeforeremoving the shippingbrace. Refer
Ito the Operationsectionfor instructionson howto set the parking
lbrake.
1. Check themower deck forashipping b race thatmay beholding thechute
deflector upward f orshipment. If thebrace i spresent, it must b eremoved
before o perating t hetractor. H olding t hechute deflector fullyupward,
remove theshipping b race. Lower thechute deflector and discard t he
shipping b race. See ..
The shippingbrace,usedfor packagingpurposesonly, mustbe
removed and discardedbeforeoperatingyour ridingmower.
The mowingdeck iscapableof throwingobjects. Failureto operate
the ridingmowerwithoutthe dischargecoverin the properoperating
Ipositioncould resultin seriouspersonalinjuryand/orproperty
ldamage.
Attaching The Steering Wheel
If the steeringwheelfor yourtractordid notcome attached,the
hardwarefor attachingit has been packedwithinthe steeringwheel,
beneaththe steeringwheelcap. Carefullypry off the steeringwheel
cap and removethe hardware.
1. With the wheelsof the tractorpointingstraightforward,placethe
steeringwheeloverthe steeringshaft.
