IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Read and understand all of the safety precautions, warnings and operating instructions in the Instruction Manual
before operating or maintaining this gardening appliance.
Most accidents that result from gardening appliance operation and maintenance are caused by the failure to
observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing a potentially hazardous
situation before it occurs, and by observing appropriate safety procedures.
Basic safety precautions are outlined in the "SAFETY" section of this Instruction Manual and in the sections which
contain the operation and maintenance instructions.
Hazards that must be avoided to prevent bodily injury or machine damage are identified by WARNINGS on the
gardening appliance and in this Instruction Manual.
NEVER use this gardening appliance in a manner that has not been specifically recommended by HITACHI.

MEANINGS OF SIGNAL WORDS

WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situations which, if ignored, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situations which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate
injury, or may cause machine damage.
NOTE emphasizes essential information.

GENERAL GARDENING APPLIANCE SAFETY WARNINGS

When using electric gardening appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the
risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury, including the following:
Read all safety warnings and all instructions.
Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "gardening appliance" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) gardening appliance
or battery-operated (cordless) gardening appliance.

Keep work area clean and well lit.
Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

Do not operate gardening appliances in
explosive atmospheres, such as in the
presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.
Gardening appliances create sparks which
may ignite the dust or fumes.

Keep children and bystanders away while
operating a gardening appliance.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.

your body is earthed or grounded.

or wet conditions.

increase the risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for
carrying, pulling or unplugging the gardening
appliance.
Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges
or moving parts.
Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk
of electric shock.
e)
When operating a gardening appliance
outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for
outdoor use.
Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces
the risk of electric shock.
