Indicators Displayed in A (Auto) Mode

Shooting mode
A displayed in A (auto) mode.
Image mode
Display image size and quality set in the
image mode menu. The default setting is
L Normal (4,000 × 3,000).

Available Functions in A (Auto) Mode
In A (auto) mode, macro mode (A 31) and exposure compensation (A 32) can be applied and
pictures can be shot using the flash mode (A 28) and self-timer (A 30). Pressing d in A (auto)
mode allows you to specify settings for all shooting menu items (A 81).

Vibration Reduction
[Vibration reduction] (A 109), when [On] (default setting) is selected, can be applied to effectively
reduce blur, caused by slight hand movement known as camera shake, that commonly occurs when
shooting with zoom applied or at slow shutter speeds.
Turn vibration reduction (A 109) [Off] when using a tripod to stabilize the camera during shooting.
To reduce the effects of camera shake when recording movies, enable [Electronic VR] (A 58) from
the movie menu (A 56).

Auto Power-Off in Shooting Mode (Standby Mode)
The monitor will dim to reduce the drain on the battery if no operations are performed for about five
seconds. The monitor will brighten when camera controls are used. At default settings, the monitor
will turn off altogether if no operations are performed for about a minute during shooting and
playback. The camera will turn off automatically if no operations are performed for another three
minutes (A 111).
Step 1 Turn the Camera On and Select A (Auto) Mode
Internal memory indicator
Pictures will be recorded to internal memory.
When memory card is inserted, C is not
displayed and pictures will be recorded to
memory card.
