    Preparing the Machine Be sure to read your setup sheet first for setting up your machine and getting it ready for use. Unpack the machine Please confirm the included items against the illustration printed on the lid of the packing box. Caution Since this machine weighs approximately 36.6 lbs.
  • Page 7 Install the ink tanks. Important Make sure that all the ink tanks are installed in the correct position, matching the label. The machine cannot be used unless all the ink tanks are installed. If the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) is left open for more than 10 minutes, the Print Head Holder moves to the right side.

    You can view the on-screen manuals in the following way: To view the on-screen manual, double-click the XXX On-screen Manual shortcut icon on the desktop, or click Start > All Programs (or Programs) > Canon XXX Manual > XXX On-screen Manual (where “XXX” is your machine’s name).

    Loading Paper Load photo paper, or any type of paper other than plain paper, in the Rear Tray. When any media type other than plain paper is selected for printing, paper is automatically fed from the Rear Tray. Load plain paper in the Cassette. When plain paper is selected for printing, paper is automatically fed from the Cassette.

    Loading Paper in the Cassette Pull out the Cassette from the machine. Load the paper in the Cassette, aligning the paper stack against the right side of the Cassette. Do not load higher than the Load Limit Mark (A). Slide the Paper Guides (B) to fit to the loaded paper stack.

  • Page 16 (12) Redial/Pause button Redials the last number called using the Numeric buttons. Also enters pauses between or after numbers when dialing or registering numbers. (13) Coded Dial button Press this button and a two-digit code to display a pre-registered fax/telephone number or group.

    Copying Making Copies This section describes the basic procedure to make copies. For details, refer to “Copying” in the User’s Guide on-screen manual. Turn on the machine. Press the COPY button to select the copy mode if another mode has been selected.

    Printing from a Memory Card Inserting the Memory Card Caution When a memory card is inserted into the Card Slot, the Access lamp (A) is lit. When the Access lamp is flashing, the machine is accessing to the memory card. In this case, do not touch the area around the Card Slot.

    Caution The memory card will stick out of the Card Slot, but do not force it into the slot any further. Doing so damages the machine and the memory card. Make sure that the memory card is correctly oriented before inserting it into the Card Slot. If you force the memory card into the Card Slot in the wrong orientation, you may damage the memory card and/or the machine.

    Select the photo to print. (1) Use the [ or ] button to display a photo to print. Note Changing the Display You can change the way that photos are displayed when Display photo is selected. To change the display, press the OK button. Full-screen view: Shows one photo at full-screen.

    Printing by Using the Photo Index Sheet Turn on the machine, and load A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Cassette. Press the MEMORY CARD button. Insert a memory card into the Card Slot. See “Inserting the Memory Card” on page 18. Use the [ or ] button to select Photo Index Sheet, then press the OK button.

    Create a document or open a file to print using appropriate application software. Select Print on the application software’s File menu. Make sure that Canon XXX Printer (where “XXX” is your machine’s name) is selected in Select Printer, and click Preferences (or Properties).

    Printing with Macintosh Turn on the machine and load the paper in the machine. Create a document or open a file to print using appropriate application software. Select Page Setup on the application software’s File menu. Make sure that your machine’s name is selected in Format for.

    Scanning Images You can scan images from the machine to a computer without printing them and save them in popular image types, such as JPEG, TIFF, bitmaps, or PDF. The scanned data can be sent to one of the computers connected over a network as well as to a computer connected via USB. If you are scanning printed text, you can use the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to convert it to text data.

    Replacing an Ink Tank Replacing Color or Black Ink Tanks When color or black ink tanks (PGI-9PBK/Y/M/C or PGI-7BK) run out of ink, replace them using the following steps. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and lift the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) until it stops.
  • Page 46 Insert the front end of the ink tank into the Print Head. Make sure the position of the tank matches the label (F). Press on the mark on the ink tank until the ink tank snaps firmly into place. Confirm that the ink lamp (G) lights up red. Gently close the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover).
  • Page 47 Replacing the Clear Ink Tank When the clear ink tank (PGI-9Clear) runs out of ink, replace it using the following steps. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and lift the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) until it stops. The Paper Output Tray will open automatically and the Print Head Holder moves to the center.
