The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a non-profit organisation that sets standardised testing for
products, providing consumers with open and honest ratings. The ANSI FL-1 flashlight standards provide specific
methods to measure features of torches and headlamps under controlled laboratory conditions. For example:
Run time – The duration of time until the light output drops to 10% of its original value. Previously, LED Lenser
measured run time down to 1 lumen.
Light Output – Total light output measured in lumens after the light has been on for 30 – 120 seconds.
Beam Distance – The distance in metres at which the torch produces a light intensity of 0.25 lux (about the
same brightness of a full moon).
In most instances, the ANSI standard is a tougher rating system than those the torch manufacturers have
previously used.
Please note: Many competing brands do not currently use ANSI ratings, therefore you can only directly compare
LED Lenser SEO specifications with brands that do.
