Safety Distance for Antenna Unit

The safety levels for the Thrane & Thrane INMARSAT-C Antenna
Units are based on the ANSI standard C95.1-1982 "American
National Standard Safety Levels With Respect to Human Exposure
to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 300 kHz to 100 GHz"
This standard recommends the maximum power density at 1.6
GHz exposed to human beings not to exceed 5 mW/cm².
At the maximum radiated output power from the INMARSAT-C
Antenna (16 dBW EIRP) this corresponds to a minimum safety
distance of 30 cm.
In the standards from the European Telecommunication Standard
Institute (ETSI) concerning 1.5/1.6 GHz Satellite Earth Stations the
recommendation will be maximum 8W/m² (0.8 mW/cm²). This
tighter recommendation corresponds to a minimum safety
distance of 60 cm at 16 dBW.
To be sure that this distance is respected the Thrane & Thrane
INMARSAT-C Antenna Units are provided with a label declaring a
minimum safety distance on 2 feet (61 cm).
The relation between the power intensity is as follows:
