Use G to select a character and press i

The highlighted character is deleted.
^ Recover up to 64 characters deleted with i. Press f once for
each character to recover immediately after deleting. Pressing any
other key disables the recover function.

Press i for 1+ seconds to delete all text. Characters deleted in this manner cannot
be recovered.
