hi! my cassette decks aren’t working properly. what happens is i will put the cassette in normally and press play. it might play for a few seconds but then it makes the same sound as when the tape is rewinding and stops playing all together. upon inspecting i’ve noticed that the tape itself become loose and the system “chews” the tape. i know the issue is not with any of the tapes i’ve tested as they all work correctly in my walkman and that it can successful rewind and fast forward the tape without an issue. i’ve tried playing tapes in both sides and still no luck. (am more than happy to send any video demonstrations through to a provided email if needed :)

The issue where the tape plays briefly, then stops and gets chewed on the Panasonic SA-AK15 cassette deck could be caused by one or more of the following:

1. Azimuth Misalignment – If the azimuth screw is not properly adjusted, the tape head may not align correctly with the tape, leading to playback issues.
2. Tape Speed Misalignment – If the tape speed is incorrect, the tape may not move smoothly, causing it to get caught or chewed.
3. Faulty Mechanism Switches – Issues with deck mode detection switches (e.g., Deck1 Mode Detect Switch, Deck2 Mode Detect Switch) may cause erratic tape movement.
4. Worn or Slipping Belts – If the belts driving the cassette mechanism are worn or loose, they may not properly move the tape, leading to jamming.
5. Faulty Capstan or Pinch Roller – If these components are dirty or worn, they may not grip the tape properly, causing it to bunch up and get chewed.
6. Erase/Bias Voltage Issues – If the erase or bias voltage is incorrect, it may affect tape handling and playback stability.

Checking and adjusting these components may help resolve the issue.

The Panasonic SA-AK15 may not load CDs when the open/close button is pressed due to a mechanical or electrical issue. Possible causes include:

1. Tray Switch P.C.B. Issue – The Tray Switch P.C.B. may be faulty or disconnected, preventing the system from detecting tray movement.
2. Disc Tray Mechanism Blockage – The disc tray may be obstructed or misaligned, stopping it from opening or closing properly.
3. Base Lock Lever Not Released – If the Base Lock Lever is not unlocked, the tray may not move correctly.
4. Drive Rack Misalignment – If the Drive Rack or Carrier Lever is not in the correct position, the CD changer unit may not function properly.

To fix the issue, check the Tray Switch P.C.B., ensure the disc tray is free of obstructions, unlock the Base Lock Lever, and verify that the Drive Rack and Carrier Lever are properly aligned.
