General Notes for Serial Communications with MedeaWiz DV-71 Video Players
The serial port on the DV-71 player uses TTL levels. This means +5 volts and
Ground for the data. This is perfect for most microcontrollers such as the Basic Stamp,
PIC, Atmel and etc.
If you need to communicate to the DV-71 with a PC or other TRUE
RS-232 level device at +12 volts and -12 volts, you will need a level converter. Team
Kingsley LLC stocks a cable with the level converter built in.
The part number is DV-RS232-C.
The pin-out for the serial port on the DV-71 is:
Pin Function
1 +5 volts output
2 RX
3 TX
4 Ground
Use a voltmeter to find the +5 volt and Ground at the end of the cable going to your
microprocessor as some phone cables reverse the pairs between ends.
The protocol is 4800,8,N,1
Commands are a single byte.
HEX 01 will play file 001.xxx.
HEX 02 will play file 002.xxx
HEX 03 will play file 003.xxx
And so on, up to 200 files.
Programmer Notes:
You may need to send the command 2 times, once each in sequential lines of code.
The DV-71 does not transmit information back to the host controller.
Audio Notes:
When video output is set to HDMI, the audio is on the HDMI cable and not the 3.5mm jack.
When video output is set to VGA, the audio output is on the 3.5mm jack.
