Solutions
Check to see if the "Turn display off when idle" setting is enabled.
Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds.
1. Check the profile you have selected by looking on the situation
display or choosing the Profile item from the main menu on the
situation display.
2. Use setup to verify the CPA alarm parameters for the current
profile.
3. Check "CPA alarm" setting to make sure it is enabled and set to a
value greater than the range of the target in question.
4. Ensure the "CPA alarm - Time" setting isn't set too low.
5. Check the "CPA alarm – Target speed" and "CPA alarm – Your
speed" settings.
Use setup to verify the "Guard alarm range" setting for the current
profile. If this setting is "ALL" then every target will trigger an alarm.
Verify that your antenna, cable, and connections are good. Most
problems are the result of an open or shorted connector. Use a
meter to verify them. Check with your antenna manufacturer to
determine if your antenna should meter open or shorted.
Ensure your VHF antenna is mounted well away from other antennas
(3m is best) and away from parallel metal structures like a mast or
rigging.
Although a marine VHF antenna may usually be used, AIS
frequencies are at the high end of the marine VHF band. As a result,
some antennas may have high VSWR levels when used by AIS.
Note: Some versions of the firmware automatically place the
transceiver in Silent Mode to help prevent you from causing damage
to your unit or your antenna system. Once you have found the cause
of the problem, you may take the transceiver out of Silent Mode
using the "AIS Transceiver" setup option.
CAUTION: Never operate this device unless it is connected to a
suitable VHF antenna or Vesper Marine AIS/VHF antenna
splitter.
