DETERMINE YOUR EXISTING IDE CONFIGURATION

With your computer open, determine the existing IDE configuration. You can do this by looking at
the jumper setting of your hard drive or CD/DVD-ROM device.

If your hard drive or CD/DVD-ROM device's jumper is set to Cable Select (sometimes called CSEL),
then ALL of your devices including the veloCD must be set to Cable Select.
*Make sure you are using an IDE cable that supports Cable Select.*
If your jumper is set to Master or Slave, please use one of the configurations below.
You should have a 40-pin IDE ribbon cable (or cables—there may be two) and see what is connected
to them. One end of the IDE cable is connected to a port on the computer's motherboard; and the
other end is connected to one or two peripheral devices (such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive). If
there are two devices, one is considered the master and one is the slave. If there are two IDE ports,
one is for the primary IDE bus and one is for the secondary bus.
A typical drive's IDE configuration is usually one of the following:
IF...ANY device on either IDE port is connected as cable select
THEN...Connect the veloCD ReWriter as cable select on the secondary IDE port.
IF...The primary IDE port has a hard drive connected as master and other slave devices; and the
secondary IDE port has a DVD-ROM connected as master
THEN...Connect the veloCD ReWriter as the slave device to the secondary IDE port.
IF...The primary IDE port has a hard drive connected as master and other slave devices; and the
secondary IDE port has a CD-ROM or CD-RW connected as master
THEN...Connect the veloCD ReWriter as master device to the secondary IDE port. Remove the CD-ROM
drive, change it to slave, and connect it to the secondary IDE port.
NOTE: With this configuration, it is very difficult to write from the CD-ROM to the veloCD
ReWriter using "on-the-fly" copying. Use the image writing method for best results.
IF...The primary IDE port has a hard drive connected as master and a CD-ROM or CD-RW connected
as slave and there is nothing connected to the secondary IDE port
THEN...Connect the veloCD ReWriter as master to the secondary IDE port.
IF...The primary IDE port just has a hard drive connected as master and nothing is connected to the
secondary IDE port
THEN...Connect the veloCD ReWriter as master to the secondary IDE port.
