Vll. Operating Procedures.
Due to the high noise of the rotary
engine, we recommend using a
muffler around the garage or Pit
area.
An air cleaner is an absolute neces'
sity at all times to avoid loss of
compression from dirt entering
t h e e n g i n e .
C. Starting and warming up the engine.
B e f o r e s t a r t i n g t h e e n g i n e , a l w a Y s
c h e c k t h e e n g i n e o i l a n d c o o l a n l
a n d t h e V - b e l t t e n s i o n . A n d l o o k f o r
any loose parts or fasteners.
1 . S t a r t i n g p r o c e d u r e .
Depress the throttle Pedal a cou-
p l e o f t i m e s t o s q u i r t s o m e f u e l
i n t o t h e i n t a k e , t h e n c r a n k t h e e n -
g i n e w h i l e h o l d i n g t h e t h r o t t l e
a b o u t t w o - t h i r d s d o w n .
N o t e : O n c o l d d a Y s , c i r c u l a t e t h e
e n g i n e o i l f o r a s h o r t t i m e b e f o r e
s t a r t i n g .
2. Warm-up procedure.
( 1 ) F i r s t r e m o v e t h e r a d i a t o r c a P ,
t h e n s t a r t t h e e n g i n e . l m m e d i -
a t e l y a f t e r s t a r t i n g , c h e c k t h e
o i l p r e s s u r e a n d r e l e a s e a l l a i r
bubbles bY both squeezing the
water hose bY hand and racing
t h e e n g i n e a c o u P l e o f t i m e s ,
then re-tighten the cap secure-
l y .
T h e e n g i n e s h o u l d b e w a r m e d
at an idle speed of 2000-2500
R P M , p n t i l t h e o i l t e m P e r a t u r e
r e a c h e s 7 0 ' C o r 1 6 0 " F .
D u r i n g w a r m - u p , w a t c h f t , r
c o o l a n t a n d o i l l e a k s , a n d b e

Starting with a fresh engine, the over'

r e v l i m i t s u s e d d u r i n g r a c i n g , a s f o l '

U s e t h e r o t a r y e n g i n e c g m p r e s s i o n
tester, part number 49 0820 280K. A
n o r m a l c o m p r e s s i o n t e s t e r w i l l n o t
g i v e a r e a d i n g o n t h e c o n d i t i o n o f
e a c h i n d i v i d u a l w o r k i n g c h a m b e r .
1 . P r i o r t o m e a s u r e m e n t :
( 1 ) W a r m u P t h e e n g i n e .
(2) Remove the trailing spark plug.
(3) Screw the comPression tester
f i t t i n g i n t o t h e s P a r k P l u g h o l e .
( 4 ) D i s c o n n e c t t h e i g n i t i o n a t t h e
i g n i t o r .
2 . M e a s u r e m e n t P r o c e d u r e .
( 1 ) T h e c o m P r e s s i o n t e s t e r o P e r -
a t e s o n 1 2 v o l t s .
(2) To prclperly warm uP the trac'
i n g n e e d l e t h e c o m P r e s s i o n
