Installing the iPOS 3100 System

System Requirements

The following items are needed to install the iPOS 3100 system:
PC or host device running DOS, Microsoft
higher
Serial port for DOS or Windows platform, or RS-485 for IBM host
For RS-232 configuration:
AC power adapter cable
RS-232 cable (HDB15-DB9), 12, 20, or 30 feet
RS-232 passthrough Y cable (HDB15-Dual DB9), 12 feet
For RS-485 configuration:
RS-485 shielded data link cable (HDB15-SDL), 12 or 20 feet

Connecting the iPOS 3100

The iPOS 3100 autoconfigures to the host using the correct protocol when the appropriate
cable is connected.
The passthrough configuration allows a secondary or auxiliary RS-232 peripheral to
connect to the host through the iPOS 3100.
RS-232 Installation
To install the iPOS 3100 in an RS-232 configuration:
1. Shut off power on the POS host device.
2. Plug the serial cable's 15-pin connector (HDB15) into the serial port on the back of
the iPOS 3100.
3. Plug the serial cable's 9-pin connector (DB9) into a serial port (typically COM1) on
the POS host device.
4. If setting up an RS-232 passthrough configuration, plug the second 9-pin connector
(Aux DB9) into the peripheral device.
5. Insert the male connector on the AC power adapter cable into the port on the back
of the serial cable's 9-pin connector (DB9) that is connected to the host.
6. Connect the end of the AC adapter to a standard 120V, 60 Hz AC power outlet.
