Cleaning the Air Filter

Dirty air filters reduce engine power,
increase fuel consumption and make
starting more difficult.
Felt Filter
If there is a noticeable loss of engine
power

Set choke lever to g
:
Take out the screw (1).
:
Remove the filter cover (2).
:
Clean away loose dirt from around
the filter.
:
Remove the felt filter element (3).
:
Fit a new felt filter element. As a
temporary measure you can knock it
out on the palm of your hand or blow
it out with compressed air. Do not
wash.
:
Install the filter element.
:
Fit the filter cover.
:
Fit the screw and tighten it down
firmly.
HS 86 R, HS 86 T
Paper Filter
If there is a noticeable loss of engine
power

Set choke lever to g
:
Take out the screw (1).
:
Remove the filter cover (2).
:
Clean away loose dirt from inside
the filter cover and around the filter.

Remove and check the paper filter
element (3) – replace if dirty or
damaged.
:
Fit the filter element in the filter
housing.
:
Attach the left end of the filter cover
to the filter housing and swing it to
the right – the two lugs (arrows)
must engage the holes in the cover.
:
Fit the screw and tighten it down
firmly.
