PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
CAUTION
• ALWAYS be environmentally
responsible.
• Follow the guidelines of the
EPA or other governmental
agencies for the proper
disposal of hazardous
materials such as engine oil,
diesel fuel and engine coolant.
Consult the local authorities or
reclamation facility.
• NEVER dispose of hazardous
materials irresponsibly by
dumping them into a sewer, on
the ground or into ground
water or waterways.
• Failure to follow these
procedures may seriously
harm the environment.

Check the fluid level periodically. If the
level is lower than the minimum fill level
(Figure 4, (1)), fill with distilled water
(Figure 4, (2)) (available in the market)
up to the upper limit (Figure 4, (3)) of the
battery. (Battery fluid tends to evaporate
in high temperatures, especially in
summer. In such cases, inspect the
battery earlier than specified.)
2. If the starter rpm is too low and the
engine cannot be started, measure the
specific gravity of the battery with a
hydrometer.
When the specific gravity of the fluid is
over 1.27 at 20°C (68°F), it is fully
charged. Fluid with a specific gravity of
below 1.24 needs charging. If the
specific gravity cannot be raised by
charging, the battery must be replaced.
Note: The capacities of the standard
alternator and the
recommended battery assume
only the power necessary for
regular operation. If the power is
also used for inboard lighting or
other purposes, the generating
and charging capacities may be
insufficient. In such cases, see
your authorized Yanmar marine
dealer or distributor.
