RIDING TIPS

If this is the first time that you
have
ridden
a machine
of this
type, we suggest
that you prac-
tice
on a non-public
road
to
become thoroughly
familiar with
the controls
and operation
of the
motorcycle.
• One-hand
riding
is
extremely
dangerous.
Keep
both
hands
firmly on the handlebars
and both
feet
securely
on the footrests.
Under no circumstances
should
both hands be removed from the
handlebars.

not downshift
in the midst of
. cornering.
Slow down to a safe
speed
before
negotiating
a cor-
ner.
• When the road surface
is wet or
slushy, there isa reduction
in tire
traction.
You
should
reduce
speed whenever
these conditions
exist
as braking
and cornering
ability are reduced.
• At side
winds
which
may be
experienced
at the exists of tun-
nels, when passing
by the cut of
a hill, or when being overtaken
by larger
vehicles,
you should
reduce
speed and ride alertly.
• Obey the speed limit and traffic
regulations
at all times ..
ACAUTION
Running the engine too long with-
out riding may cause the engine to
overheat.
Overheating
can result in
damage
to internal
engine
compo-
nents and discoloration

Shut the engine
off if you
cannot
begin your ride promptly.
Before attempting to start the en-
gine, make sure:
1. The transmission is in neutral.
2. The fuel valve lever is in the
"ON" position.
3. The engine stop switch is in the
"RUN" position.
Never run the engine indoors
or in
a
garage.
Exhaust
gas
contains
carbon
monoxidll,
a gas
that
is
colorless
and
odorless
and
can
cause
death
or severe
injury. Only
run
the
engine
outdoors
where
there is fresh air.
STARTING
THE ENGINE
1. Turn the fuel valve to the "ON"
position.
2. Insert the key into the ignition
switch and turn it to the "ON"
position.
NOTE This motorcycle
is equip-
ped with interlock switches for the
ignition circuit and the starter cir-
cuit. The engine can only be started
if:
• The transmission is in neutral,
or
• The transmission is in gear and
the side stand is fully up.

Steering
• Smoothness
• No restriction of
movement
• No play or looseness
• Correct play in the throt·
tle cable
• Smooth operation

positive
return
of the
throttle
grip
to the
osed position
• Correct play in the cable
• Smooth
and
progres-
tion
• Fluid level in the reser-
voir to be above
"LOWER" line
• No fluid leakage
• Brake pads not to be
worn down to the limit
line
• Correct pedal and lever
play
• No "sponginess"
ons
Smooth movement
Enough fuel for the planned
distance of operation
• Proper coolant level
• No leaks from the cool-
ing system
INSPECTION
BEFORE
RIDING
Before riding the motorcycle,
be
sure to check the following items.
Never underestimate
the impor-
tance of these checks. Perform all
of them before riding the motor-
cycle.
