10.5 Using Your Device as a Modem
(Wireless Modem)
Use the Wireless Modem function to set your device as a USB or Bluetooth
modem so you can connect your personal computer or notebook to the
Internet.
Note
The Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync connection is automatically
disabled when you activate Wireless Modem.
To set up your device as a USB modem
1.
On your device, tap Start > Settings > Connections tab >
Wireless Manager.

Tap the Wireless Modem icon.
3.
In the Connection Type list, select USB.
Note

Connect the device to your computer
using the sync cable, then tap
Menu > Start.
5.
Place the Getting Started disc on the CD/
DVD-ROM drive of your computer.
6.
On your computer, a Found New Hardware dialog box appears on
screen. Click Cancel.
7.
Open the Control Panel, then click Device Manager.
8.
Right-click Generic Serial, then click Update Driver Software.
9.
Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click Let me
pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
10.
Click Show All Devices, click Have Disk, then browse the Getting
Started disc to locate the USB modem driver.
If you will use your device as a Bluetooth
modem, create a Bluetooth partnership
first between your device and notebook
before using Wireless Modem. For more
information, see "To se tup your device
as a Bluetooth modem" in this chapter.
