LOCATION SERVICES

Using the Assistance button
In a critical situation, the Assistance button allows you
to rapidly make a call to a recipient, or send an alert text
message or email to one or more recipients. Note: An
assistance alert is not the same as an emergency call, see
page 18. You cannot set the feature to call a national
emergency number (e.g. 911) or other numbers of less
than four digits. However it is always good practice to save
to your phonebook the contact details of related local
services so that they can be alerted if necessary.
Enabling the Assistance feature
Before you can use the Assistance feature, you must
enable it and configure the alert type and recipients. From
the main menu select Location services > Assistance
button > Configure > Assistance feature. Then press the
centre selection key to enable the feature.
Configuring Assistance button calls
Go to Location services > Assistance button >
Configure > Alert type, then select Call only or Call &
message. Choose the intended recipient of your call
by selecting Location services > Assistance button >
Configure > Call config. > Edit recipient. You can choose
a contact from the phonebook or add a new contact.
To find contacts, edit contacts or add new contacts, see
Managing contacts in your phonebook on page 40. You
can only select one recipient for an assistance call. If you
want to use the handset loudspeaker when you make an
assistance call, select Location services > Assistance
button > Configure > Call config. > Handsfree call
> On. If you want the handset to automatically redial
the recipient when the call setup fails, select Location
services > Assistance button > Configure > Call config.
> Call retry > On. If the first call is unsuccessful, the
handset disconnects and shows the text Call connection
failed, retrying. The contact is then automatically re-
dialled after three minutes. The handset will make up to
eight attempts to connect to the recipient, after which
Assistance alert is de-activated.
Configuring Assistance button messages
Go to Location services > Assistance button >
Configure > Alert type, then highlight Call & message or
Message only and press the centre selection key. Choose
the intended recipient of your message by selecting
Location services > Assistance button > Configure
> Message config. > Edit recipient. See Configuring
assistance calls above. Then choose the type of message
that you want to send to this recipient by selecting Email
message or Text message. If you want to send a message
to more than one recipient, select each contact from the
