Safety Precautions for IP Telephony

Different methods can be implemented to protect an IP environment from
external attacks (denial of service attacks, viruses, etc.) and call
monitoring.
Telephones from the optiPoint 410/420 product family, software version
5.x or later, which are operated on a HiPath 3000/5000 V6.0 or later or
HiPath 4000 V3.0 or later, are protected against unauthorized access by

Secure Call (SPE)

From HiPath 2000 V2 R4, HiPath OpenOffice EE V1, HiPath 4000 V4 R1
and HiPath 3000/5000 V7 R4 can be used

encrypted, i. e. unsecure.
To ensure that calls are always secure, your service technician can activate
„Cipher Mode" in HiPath 4000. In this mode the voice transmission is
always encrypted even to a phone that does not support voice encryption.
However this can result is a reduction in speech quality.
The security mode is set in HiPath 4000. You can view the status on the
idle menu on the phone (see your phone's manual).
