Improper grade of fuel
Excessive exhaust back pressure
Misfiring cylinders
Lubricating oil not burned in
cylinder (being burned in exhaust
manifold or turbocharger)
Faulty injector timing
Faulty oil control rings
Excessive installation angle
Excessive oil in crankcase
High ambient temperature
Thin air (high altitude)
Cetane rating of fuel too low
Air in the fuel system
