Checking the chain tension

– Put the motorcycle on the side stand.
– Press the chain approx. 3 cm (1.2 in) behind the chain sliding piece up
toward the swingarm.
– In this place, it must be possible without pushing hard to press the chain
up to 10 mm (0.4 in) toward the swing arm (see figure). At the same
time, the upper half of the chain must be tense.
– If necessary correct the chain tension.

F THE CHAIN IS TOO TIGHT THE SECONDARY TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS
SPROCKETS
UNDER ADDITIONAL STRAIN THAT CAN
CAUSE CHAIN BREAKAGE

F THE CHAIN IS NOT TIGHT ENOUGH IT CAN SLIP OFF THE SPROCKETS AND BLOCK THE
REAR WHEEL OR DAMAGE THE ENGINE

Correcting the chain tension

– Undo the hexagon nut

Chain maintenance

For long chain life, good maintenance is very important. The chain should
be cleaned in fireproof solvent regularly and afterwards treated with hot
grease or chain spray (i.e. Shell Advance Bio Chain).
