Chapter 1. Installation and user's guide

This guide contains the product description, hardware and software installation
instructions, and product use.

Product description

The IBM 80/160 GB (GB equals approximately 1 000 000 000 bytes) VS160 Tape
Drive is a fast/wide Ultra2 (low voltage differential) SCSI tape drive for backing
up and restoring data and archiving files. These files can include multimedia,
imaging, transaction processing, large databases, and other storage-intensive
applications. Each tape cartridge can store up to 80 GB of data (uncompressed), or
up to 160 GB of data (compressed), assuming a 2:1 compression ratio.
In addition to this guide on CD, the option package contains:
v IBM 80/160 GB VS160 Tape Drive
v Mounting screws
v Cleaning cartridge
v Device drivers (on User's Guide CD)
v Quick Installation Guide
v SCSI cable
v SCSI ID jumpers (maybe preinstalled on drive)
Contact your place of purchase if an item is missing or damaged. Be sure to retain
your proof of purchase and packing material. They might be required to receive
warranty service.

Installation requirements

To install this drive, you must have the following:
v A dedicated low voltage differential (Ultra2) or a Ultra160 SCSI host adaptor
v Documentation for your computer, SCSI bus adapter, or external enclosure
v Phillips and flat blade screwdrivers for the mounting screws, and for opening
v Flat-nose pliers (optional) to install and remove jumpers
v An available 5.25-inch half high drive bay
v Supported operating system, Windows
v Supported backup software, Veritas Backup Exec, CA Brightsor, etc.

Installing the drive

The IBM 80/160 GB DLTVS Internal Tape Drive can be installed in several types of
IBM xSeries

for installing the tape drive are included in your server documentation.
If you cannot find your server documentation, follow these general steps to install
the tape drive.
