Clearances to Combustibles
IMPORTANT: If unit is converted to an RDV33 from an RDV40,
the clearances to combustibles can be reduced as shown on
this page.
WARNING: If this unit is ever converted back to an RDV40,
ensure that the clearances are correct for this model.
Minimum Clearances to Combustibles
Minimum clearances include any projections such as shelves, window
sills, mantels, spacers/standoffs or surfaces to combustible construction
etc. above the appliance. Paint or lacquer used to finish the mantel
must be heat resistant in order to avoid discoloration.
The letters below, E through J, correspond to Figure 5 showing minimum
clearances required from the appliance to combustibles and the minimum
projection of the hearth extension.
E = From Top Facing or Mantel to Bottom of Insert -
.25 RDV40 = 35-1/2"(902mm) and RDV33 = 31-1/2"(800mm)
F = 25-1/2" From Center of Glass Door to Side Facing or Wall - RDV40
= 25.5"(648mm) and RDV33 = 25.5" (648mm)
J = 10.5" (267mm) Mantel to Bottom of Insert -
.25 RDV40 = 43"(1092mm) and RDV33 = 39"(991mm)
Hearth Protection
G = Minimum Hearth Protection from Front of Insert*
H = Vertical Distance from Insert Bottom to Combustible Material.

Note: Hearth protection to be min. 3/8" (10mm) thick non-combustible
or equivalent, with a k factor of .84.
Insert Leveling
At each front and rear corner of the insert is an adjustable leg provided
to level the insert should the hearth of the fireplace be uneven. To adjust
the legs, loosen the two 5/32" allen head screws, move the leg to the
desired height and then tighten the screws. Repeat these steps for each
adjusting leg.

Facing and Mantel Clearances
Please note that the RDV33 mantel clearances are 4" less than the RDV40
mantel clearances as shown in Figures 4A (RDV40) and 4B (RDV33).
