The Vocal/Guitar section

Connecting a microphone or a
guitar
You can connect a microphone or a guitar to the
INPUT-IN jack. You can also connect a mono instru-
ment with output at line level (such as a synthesizer).
The input level of the signal can be adjusted with the
GAIN knob located next to the INPUT-IN jack. After
you connected the instrument or the microphone, play
or sing and adjust the knob until you obtain the
desired level. Check the level with the assistance of the
SIGNAL led situated in the VOCAL/GUITAR section.
In order to obtain the best level, the SIGNAL LED of
the VOCAL/GUITAR section must be orange during
the signal peaks. The LED should never be red. To
obtain the best signal/noise ration, the level should
not be too low.
The input signal is processed by the harmonizer and
effect processors of the VOCAL/GUITAR section (see
page 73 and following pages). The processed signal is
sent to the audio OUTPUT jacks of the iS35 together
with the sounds produced by the internal sound gen-
eration.
Use the VOLUME control of the VOCAL/GUITAR
section to adjust the signal output level from the
VOCAL/GUITAR section.
The signal level is indicated by the SIGNAL led,
located in the control panel of the VOCAL/GUITAR
section. If it is off, the signal is not present; if it is
green, the signal is present, if it is orange, the signal is
close to saturation; if it is red, the signal is saturated.
Be careful: the signal must never be saturated. If this
happens, reduce the input gain with the GAIN knob.
Note: The VOCAL/GUITAR section will automatically
use the settings memorised in the A1 Keyboard Set when
the instrument is turned on.
The settings of the VOCAL/GUITAR section are con-
tained in the Keyboard Set. They can be changed by
selecting a different Keyboard Set.
You can also modify two effect parameters while play-
ing using the button and the A/B switch.
46
When turning on the instrument, the VOCAL/GUI-
TAR section is configured with the Keyboard Set A1
setting. The bank A contains settings for the voice, the
bank B settings for the clean guitar and the bank C set-
tings for the distorted guitar.

Using the Vocal/Guitar section

The following example illustrates how to harmonise
the singing with the VOCAL/GUITAR settings memo-
rised in the A1 Keyboard Set (if not modified).
Connect a microphone to the INPUT-IN jack of
1
the iS35.
Connect the microphone with a cable ending with a
mono jack.
Adjust the input level with the GAIN slider. The
correct setting will optimise the background noise
caused by the connections with the microphone.
The presence of the signal will light up the green
SIGNAL led. If the signal is close to saturation the
led will turn orange. If the signal is saturated, the
led will turn red.
2
If necessary, press ARR.PLAY to go to the
Arrangement Play mode.
Select the A1 Keyboard Set.
3
4
Start playing and adjust the general volume of
the VOCAL/GUITAR section with the VOLUME
slider.
Use the A/B button to select the operating mode
5
A of the A/B knob.
Light up the led A of the A/B button and knob.
