Quilting
Quilting is a tradition al sewing techniqu e. The
method that the wives of America n settlers
develope d to make use of material remnant s
has become an artistic hobby with many
enthusia sts in our country, too.
A quilt always consists of three layers of
material . Lots of geometr ically shaped pieces
of material are joined together in continua lly
changing patterns to form the top layer of the
auilt. This is tacked onto the middle layer
made of polyeste r padding and connecte d to
the back layer of the quilt that usually consists
of one uniform piece of material The entire
quilt is often also bordered with the back
layer.
Of course, the work of piecing the individual
bits of material together must be very precise.
Trie Dual Feed is of particula r assistanc e when
doing this.
Cut out the parts of your quilt with
template s you have bought or made your
self. A seam allowanc e of 0,7 cm should
already be included in the template s.
Spread out the parts as in the pattern and
form small squares that you can match
together . These squares are then sewn
together to form the surface of the quilt.
The seam allowanc es of quilts are not
serged up but just smoothe d out
never
ironed

In tradition al quilts these three layers of
material are sewn together by hand with
small stitches
but it is quicker and more
practical with the sewing machine e.g. with
the program ID stretch or L stretch. There is
always stitching about 3 mm beside the
seam. Embroid ered stitches look very good
on plain coloured material . Use foot number
0 for this work.
When your quilt is finished you can make it
into cushions , wall hanging s or bed
covers.
And this is what you do.
