Connecting Components without HDMI

The video/audio jacks other than HDMI jacks also have a
preassigned input selector button on the front panel. See the
name of the input selector button shown with the jack when
connecting the device. It is possible to change the assignment
if necessary. For more information, see the Advanced Manual
(http://www.onkyo.com/manual/txnr535/adv/en.html). Note that
when connecting the player to the 2 COMPONENT VIDEO
IN jacks, you need to connect the TV to the 2 COMPONENT
VIDEO OUTPUT jacks. Also note that when connecting the
player to the 3 composite video input jack, you need to
connect the TV to the 4 MONITOR OUT jack.
DIGITAL IN jacks: A player with a digital audio out optical

jack or digital coaxial audio out jack can be connected. To
enjoy digital surround sound including Dolby Digital and DTS,
use one of these connections or the HDMI cable connection.
COMPONENT VIDEO jacks: A TV with component

video input jacks or a player with component video
output jacks can be connected.
VIDEO/AUDIO IN jacks: A player with a composite video

output jack or RCA audio output jacks can be connected.
MONITOR OUT V jack: A TV with a composite video

input jack can be connected.

If the connected turntable does not have built-in
audio equalizer, you need to install an external audio
equalizer between the unit and the turntable. Contact the
manufacturer for more information.

Step 1: Connections

Type of cables

 Video/audio transmission
HDMI cable: Enables digital
transmission of video/audio signals
and control signals between devices
via single cable connection.

 Audio transmission
Digital optical cable: Transmits digital
audio. The audio quality is the same as
that of the digital coaxial cable.

Digital coaxial cable: Transmits digital
audio. The audio quality is the same as
that of the digital optical cable.
Analog audio (RCA) cable: Transmits
analog audio signals.

higher quality video signals than those
of the composite video cable.
Composite video cable: Transmits
analog video signals.
