Drive Maintenance and Data Management.

The BR-1180 is a hard disk recorder. It records directly to a 2 ½" IDE drive. The same as
you would find in a laptop computer. As a computer hard drive is a spinning magnetic
media it is very important to take care of the drive as well as what is on it. There are three
things that you can do on a regular basis to keep your digital recorder running smoothly
and your songs safe.

1-Optimize.

Every time that you press record and play, information is stored on your hard drive even
if you immediately record over it. To get rid of this extra data that is taking up space on
the hard drive optimize each song after you have done any significant amount of
recording on that song. To Optimize:
1) Press UTILTY
2) CURSOR to SONG and then press ENTER.
3) CURSOR to the right to OPTIMIZE and then press ENTER.
4) Press ENTER two times.
This will also reduce the file size for backing up.

2-Backup and Recovery

Backing up is the process of taking your song data and storing it onto CD. This is
different than an audio CD in that you are creating a digital copy of the data that makes
up your multi track recording and all of its settings. This will allow you to later recover
the song onto the hard drive in its original multi track form. Backing up your songs is
something that you want to do any time you spent any significant time working on a
song. There is an expression in the world of digital recording- "Your song does not exist
unless it exists in two places!" BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP!!!
1) Insert a blank CD or CD-RW.
2) Press DATA SAVE/LOAD.
3) CURSOR to BACKUP and then press ENTER.
4) CURSOR to SONG and then press ENTER.
5) CURSOR to each song that you want to backup and press ENTER.
6) CURSOR to GO and then press ENTER twice.
If the selected number of file's sizes exceeds the capacity of one disk then you will be
prompted to insert additional blank disks.
