strong stations seem distorted, then use LOCAL. This switch does not
function in FM mode.

TUNING IN STATIONS

Turn on the E5. Stations are tuned with the
Buttons, Tun-
ing-Knob, Direct Frequency Entry and Auto-Search. Quick, s hort,
sequential presses of the
buttons enables tuning up or down
frequency. Alternately, the TUNING knob can be used. Continuous
tuning in shortwave can only be done with the tuning knob and via

direct frequency entry.

DIRECT FREQUENCY ENTRY
Turn on the E5. Use this method when the desired frequency of a
radio station is known. AM and SW frequencies are entered in kilo-
hertz (KHz), e.g. 810 KHz or 9475 KHz.; FM frequencies are entered in
megahertz (MHz), e.g. 102.9 MHz, ignoring the decimal point.
1. Use the numeric buttons to enter the frequency.
2. Within 3 seconds, press the AM button if it's an AM or SW fre-
quency, or the FM button for FM frequencies.
AUTO-SEARCH TUNING
With the E5 on, auto-search tuning starts by pressing either the
up or down frequency button
for about 2 seconds. The E5 has
3 selectable auto-search modes: STOP, ATS or D-5. The factory
programmed default mode is STOP. These are described below. When
