Troubleshooting

Label all wires prior to disconnection when
WARNING
servicing controls. Wiring errors can cause
improper and dangerous operation. Always
disconnect power to the pool heater before
servicing. Failure to comply could result in
severe personal injury, death, or substantial
property damage.
Never jumper (bypass) any device except for
WARNING
momentary testing as outlined in the
Troubleshooting chart.

Before troubleshooting:
1. Have the following items:
a.
Voltmeter that can check 120 VAC, 240 VAC, 24 VAC,
and 12 VDC.
b.
Continuity checker.
c.
Contact thermometer.
2. Check for 240 VAC (120 VAC optional) to pool heater.
3. Make sure all external limit controls are installed and
operating.

No Display
- No voltage through the switch.
- Bad main control board.
- Main control board temperature set point

No Burner
- Remote thermostat satisfied.
Operation
- Pool heater locked out on fault.

Check the following:
1. Wire connectors to control module are securely plugged in
2. Gas pressures:

at the module and originating control.
• Maximum: 14 inches w.c. (natural), 14 inches w.c.
(LP) with no flow (lockup) or with pool heater on.
• Minimum: 4.0 inches w.c. (natural) on the ER152 - ER202
models, 4.5 inches w.c. (natural) on the ER252 - ER302
models, and 5.0 inches w.c. (natural) on the ER402 model.
On the ER152 - ER402 models minimum 8.0 inches w.c.
(LP) with gas flowing (verify during pool heater startup).

• Check position of ON/OFF switch. Turn switch to the
ON position.
• Check 120 or 240 VAC through the ON/OFF switch.
• Replace switch.
• Replace the main control board.
• Review temperature setting.
• Review remote thermostat setting.
• Consult display for specific fault.

corrective actions.
