Measuring with the Template

IMPORTANT: If you intend to deploy and configure multiple ProLiant DL380 Generation 2
servers in a single rack, consult the multiple server deployment white paper on the
Compaq website:

You can choose the optional installation service from Compaq to install your
rack products. See the "Optional Installation Service" section at the end of
Chapter 2, "Planning the Server Installation."
To install your rack mount server into a Compaq rack, complete all of the
following procedures.
CAUTION: When using a Compaq Series 7000 rack, you must install the new
highly ventilated front door to provide proper front-to-back airflow and cooling.
IMPORTANT: Before beginning the following procedures, refer to the Important Safety
Information guide that shipped with your server.
The rack template provides an easy and reliable way to properly position the
standard rails in the rack.
Use the template to identify the proper holes for inserting the tabs on the
standard rails. Use a pencil to mark the top and bottom edges of the template
against the rack supports, identifying where the server fits and providing a
starting point for installing the next unit.
CAUTION: Always mount the heaviest item on the bottom of the rack and work
from the bottom to the top.
IMPORTANT: Determine the server's place in the rack before you start installing the
standard rails. To remind you of the proper placement of the server in the rack, refer to
the Rack Builder report you printed when you planned your rack configuration.
IMPORTANT: The template is two-sided (front and back) and printed to indicate where
items are inserted.
