Chapter 2
Server Installation and Start Up
IMPORTANT: These instructions are for use with Pentium II Xeon and
Pentium III Xeon processor-based servers only.
The following instructions are provided as only an overview for the first-time
installation of the ProLiant 6000 Server. Compaq recommends that you read all
of the documentation that came with the server for complete installation
instructions. If you have any problems, contact your Authorized Compaq
Reseller.
Overview of Installing the Server
The following installation sequence is only a guide for installing the ProLiant
6000 Server for the first time. Depending on the hardware options you are
installing or the configuration requirements of your system, some of these steps
may not be performed in the sequence listed.
1.
Select a site and unpack the server, keyboard (if included), mouse (if
included), and monitor (if included). Refer to the next sections,
"Optimum Environment" and "Unpacking the Shipping Boxes" in this
chapter.
2.
Remove the power supply shipping bracket. Refer to the next sections,
"Optimum Environment" and "Unpacking the Shipping Boxes" in this
chapter.
3.
Install any expansion boards or other options such as additional
memory, hard drives, and external storage devices (optional).
NOTE: Non-plug-and-play ISA boards are installed after the System
Configuration Utility has been run. See Chapter 4, "Installing Hardware
Options" for more details.
You will need to run the System Configuration Utility after you install
hardware options with the exception of additional memory and most PCI
boards. Refer to the Server Setup and Management pack shipped with
your server to run the System Configuration Utility. See Chapter 4,
"Installing Hardware Options," to install many of the major options.
