Using Agere (for Orinoco, Compaq and Avaya cards) Wireless Client Manager at the same time
with the Site Survey Tool might cause network data reading problems. If you have problems
with Site Survey, please exit the Agere Client Manager. This defect is under investigation and
solution will be available later.
If your access points are hidden, it depends on your adapter model how to proceed. With
Agere-based 802.11b adapters, such as Orinoco, Avaya, Buffalo, Enterasys, or IBM, you need
to do a separate survey for each hidden network. Create a suitable Configuration Profile for the
first network with the Wireless Client Manager, and select option Scan Current Profile in the Site
Survey Tool Device Properties Tab Sheet. With this setting, you will not see any other networks
except for the current (hidden) one.
Please refer to the list of
detect hidden networks, and how to configure network settings.
I can only see 802.11b (or 802.11a) access points even though I'm using 802.11a/b combo
card.
The available bands also depend on any limitations in the active configuration profile. Use your
WLAN adapter's standard managing tools to create a configuration profile that allows reading all
preferred 802.11 band(s).
Make sure you have enabled the preferred band(s) in the Site Survey Tool Device Properties.
I can only see 802.11b (or 802.11a) access points even though I'm using combo access
points with 802.11a/b support.
First make sure you are using a WLAN adapter configuration profile and the Site Survey Tool
settings that allow using the preferred band. See
The Site Survey Tool adds each physical access point on the access point list only once. If you
do two surveys with same access points first in 802.11a mode and then in 802.11b, the latter
mode (here 802.11b) will always be displayed after the access point MAC and channel in the
Browser View.
To work around the problem, you can either save the two surveys (802.11b and 802.11a) into
separate project files, or manually change the MAC property of each combo access point
between the two surveys. This way the Site Survey Tool will treat the access points as different
physical ones.
