BELT REPLACEMENT
If the drive beltor reversebeltneedsto be replaced,itis bestto
replacebothbeltsat the same time.Use onlya factoryauthorized
beltas an "over-the-counter"beltmay not performsatisfactorily.
The procedurerequiresaveragemechanical a bility and commonly
availabletools.
To replacethe Driveand Reversebelts,follow thesesteps:
1.
Makesurethe tiller is on a flat surface,with the engineturned
off and the sparkplug wireunpluggedand groundedto prevent
unintendedfiringof the engine.
2.
Removethe beltcoverby first removingthe two 1/4-20self-
tappinghexscrews.See Figure27. Lift the beltcover up and
awayfrom thetiller and set in a safe locationuntilreinstallation.

Removethe four 1/4-20self-tappinghexscrewsthat securethe
pulleyshieldtothe frame and removethe pulleyshieldand set
asidein a safelocationuntil reinstallation. S ee Figure28.

Removethe idler bracketextensionspring.See Figure29. It is
recommended to usea pair of needle-nosedpliers,and grab the
springby the end that hooksoverthe frame.Simplygrab it and
pull it awayfrom the frame,thenup wardsand carefullyrelieve
the tensionof the spring.

head screw,flat washerand lockwasher.See Figure30.

belt from the
idler pulley
by working
it
under the belt
keepers.

NOTE: It willbe necessary to remove thebelt fromaroundthe idler
pulleyby workingit off the pulleyandfrom underneath eachbelt keeper.
