When connecting to the AV2 input terminals or the DV IN terminal on
the front of the unit.
≥You can also connect to the AV1 input terminals on the rear of the unit.
Before connecting any cables, first make sure that the power for the
unit and the external device are off. Then, after connecting the
cables, turn on both.
Notes
≥If the audio output from the external device is monaural, connect the
audio cable to L/MONO. (Both left and right channels are recorded when
connected through L/MONO.)
≥The S VIDEO IN terminal achieves a more vivid picture than the VIDEO
IN terminal.

Preparation
≥Select the unit viewing channel (e.g. AV input) on the TV.

DVD

[RAM] [-R] [-R]DL] [-RW‹V›] [+R] [+R]DL] [+RW]
≥[RAM] Release protection (disc l 55, cartridge l 55).
≥Press [DRIVE SELECT] to select the DVD.
≥When recording bilingual programmes

When both M 1 and M 2 are selected on the external device, you can
select the audio type in playback.
[-R] [-R]DL] [-RW‹V›] [+R] [+R]DL] [+RW]
Select either M 1 or M 2 on the external device. (You cannot switch
between audio types during playback.)
≥When the output signal from the external device is NTSC, change the
"TV System" to "NTSC" in the Setup menu (l 59).
≥This unit cannot record to discs containing both PAL and NTSC
signals.

VHS

≥Insert a video cassette with a secure accidental erasure prevention
tab. (l 17)
≥Press [DRIVE SELECT] to select the VHS.

Press [REC MODE] to select the recording mode.

Press [CH, W, X] or [INPUT SELECT] to select the
input channel for the external device you have
connected.
≥Select AV1, AV2 or DV.
∫ DVD
Follow the above steps 1 to 2.

Start play on the external device.

≥It is also possible to record in Flexible Recording mode (FR). Follow
the steps in "Flexible Recording mode (FR)" (l 22) after this step.

recording.
∫ VHS
Follow the above steps 1 to 2.

Press [1, PLAY].
≥Start playing the video cassette and find the recording start point.

≥Put the unit in recording standby mode.

Start play on the external device.

Press [;, PAUSE] at the point where you want to
start recording.
∫ To skip unwanted parts
Press [;, PAUSE] to pause recording. (Press [;, PAUSE] again to restart
recording.)
∫ To stop recording
Press [∫, STOP].
For your reference
≥Almost all videos and DVD software on sale have been treated to
prevent illegal copying. Such software cannot be recorded.
