Monaural
A component
with only one audio channel.
Mono
Slang for monaural.
See Monaural.
OUT Jacks
Jacks on back of component
to which the IN
jacks from other components
are connected.
Used to send signals to that component.

Channel
of Cable Box
Channel to which TV is tuned to see the
signal coming from the cable box.

Channel to which TV is tuned to see the
signal coming from the VCR. See CH3/CH4

A feature that allows you to watch two
channels at same time, a small picture within
a big picture.
One of the pictures must come

the TV.
PIP
Abbreviation
for picture-in-picture

Channels
Scrambled
cable channels
such as HBO or
Showtime
that may require
a cable box to
unscramble.
S-VIDEO
Super Video, another name for S-VHS. The
S-VIDEO jack or the TV lets you connect
compatible
S-Video components.

Scrambled
Channel
Some cable companies
require their
customers
to rent a cable box to unscramble
the channel for viewing.
Splitter
An accessory used to divide an incoming
signal and send it to two separate
components.

Stereo
A two-channel
sound system using separate
right and left channels.

Controls
the sig_al coming out of the VCRs
OUT TO TV connector.
It switches the signal
between the VCR and TV. When this button
is set to VCR, you see the picture from a
channel on the VCR. When tlxis button is set
to TV, you see the signal from TV no matter
what the VCR is doing. See your VCR manual.

S-VHS
A Super VHS recording
format that improves
