instructions carefully.

StartingThe Engine

Tostarttheedger'sengine,proceedas follows:
1. Attachthe sparkplug wireto the spark plug.Make
certainthe metalcap on theend ofthe sparkplug
wireis fastenedsecurelyoverthe metal tip on the
spark plug.
2. Movethe bladedepthcontrol leverbackto the
STARTpositionin the adjacent(top) notch.
3. Depressthe primerbulbthreetimes, pausingtwo to
threesecondsbetweeneachpush. Incold weather
(below50°F/19°0), it may be necessaryto depress
the primerbulb fouror five times.
IMPORTANT:Usingthe primerto restarta warmengine
aftera shortshutdownisusuallynotnecessary.Doingso
may resultina floodedengine.
4. Standing behindtheunit,depress thebladecontrol and
holdit against t heupperhandlewithyourleft hand.

ARNING: Thiscontrolmechanism is
a safety device. Never attempt to bypass
itsoperation.
5. Withyourrighthand,grasptherecoilstarterhandle and
slowlypullthe ropeoutward untilenginereaches the
startof its compression c ycle(theropewillpullslightly
harderatthis point).
6. Afterslowlyallowingthe ropeto recoil,pullthe rope
witha rapid,continuous, f ullarmstroke.Keepa firm
grip on starterhandlethroughout t heentirestroke.
7. Allow thestarter h andle toslowly return totheeyebolt.
NOTE: If theenginefails tostartafterthreepulls,depress
theprimeran additionaltwotimesbeforepullingthestarter
ropeagain,
Stopping The Engine
Tostoptheedger'sengine,releasethe bladecontrol.
NOTE: Seeyour enginemanual p ackedwithyour unitfor
moredetailedinstructions.

Edging
beginedging,proceedasfollows:
Moveunit to areato be edged,makingsurethat the
left rearwheelison a hard surfaceand the blade is
overthe areato be cut. See Fig. 5-1.
2. With bladecontrol leverin STARTposition,makea
pass alongarea to be edged beforeproceedingto the
next notch. Thefurther forwardbladedepthcontrol
leverismoved,the deeperor lowerthe bladewill cut
intothe ground. Severalpassesmay be necessaryto
obtaindesireddepthof cut. Donot lowerblademore
thanone depth notchat a time withoutmakinga pass.
3. Forbest results,proceedslowlyalongpathbeingedged,
slowlymovingedgerbackand forththroughcutting
area,againmakingsureto keepthe left rearwheelon
thehard surfaceand theblade inthecuttingpath,close
to butnottouchingtheedge ofthe hardsurface.
4. Onceyou havefinishededging selectedarea, raisethe
bladecontrol leverbackintothe STARTposition,move
to the next areato be edged,and proceedagainfrom
step 1.thecurbto be edgedalong.
