Replacing the DriveBelt
IMPORTANT:Toaid in reassembly, n otethe orientation
of the drivebelt on the two idler pulleysand theengine
flywheelpulleyprior to performingthe followingsteps.
Referto Fig.6-3.
Theedger drivebelt is subjectto wear and shouldbe
replacedif any signsof cracking,shreddingor rottingare
present.Toreplacethe belt, proceedas follows:

1. Workingin front of the edger,loosentheflange lock
nuton top of frame,allowingthe idler pulleyassembly
to pivot slightlyout from theframe.See Fig. 6-3.
2. With yourotherhand,carefullyreachunderthe
rear of the unitand removethe beltfrom aroundthe
engineflywheelpulley.See Fig. 6-3.
3. Removethe spindlesheavesbeltguard by removing
thetwo self-tappingscrewswhich secureit to the
blade plateassembly.See Fig.6-4.
4. Carefullyremovethe belt fromoff of the pulleys,
again makingsureto notethe orientationof the belt.
Discardthe belt. See Fig. 6-4.

Workingfrom the front of theedger,placethe belt
ontothe spindlesheaves,routeit back ontothe
two idler pulleys,and then placeit ontothe engine
flywheelpulley.
IMPORTANT:Makecertain that the"V" sideof the belt
is seatedintothe top pulleyand the flat sideof the beltis
seatedintothe bottompulley.See Fig.6-3.
6. Reinstallthe spindlesheavesbelt guardwith the self
tappingscrewsremoved earlier.
7. Makecertainthat thedrive beltis on the engine
flywheelpulleyand idler pulleys,and retighten the
flangelock nuton the top of theframe.
IMPORTANT:Makecertain that thedrive beltis seated
correctlyand that it is ridingsmoothlyon the spindle
sheavesand is not pinchedbetweenthem. Repeatthe
firstthree stepsif the belt is pinched.
