If you do not follow these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion

A. This appliancehas a pilot whichmust be lighted by
hand.Whenlightingthe pilot,followtheseinstructions
exactly.
B. BEFORELIGHTING smell all aroundthe appliancearea
for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because
somegas isheavierthan air andwit]settleon thefloor.
WHATTODOIF YOUSMELLGAS
• Do nottry to lightanyappliance,
• Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any
phonein yourbuilding,
• Immediately cell yourgassupplierfrom a neighbor's
phone.Follow the gassupplier's instructions.
• If you cannotreach your gas supplier,call the fire
department.
C, Use onlyyourhandto pushin or turn the gas control
knob,Neverusetools. If the knobwill not push in or
turn byhand,don'ttry to repairit, call a qualifiedser-
vicetechnician.Forceor attemptedrepairmay result
in s fire or explosion,
D, Do not use this applianceif any part has been under
water.Immediately call a qualifiedservicetechnician
to inspectthe appliance and to replaceanypad of the
controlsystemand any gas controlwhichhas been
underwater,

INSTRUCTIONS
1. STOPIReadthesafetyinformation aboveonthis label.
2. Remove outerdoor.
3. Set the thermostat to lowest setting by turning the
watertemperature dialclockwise, ( F_"_) to its lowest
temperature setting(witharrowon dial)as shown,DO
NOT FORCE.
4. Turngas controlknobclockwise_'
_ to "OFF" posi-
tion.Knob cannot be turned from "PILOT" to "OFF"
unlessknob is depressedslightly.DO NOT FORCE.

5. Waitfive (5) minutesto clear out any gas. If you then
smell gas, STOP!Follow"B" in the safety information
above on this label. If you don't smell gas, go to the
nextstep,
6, Remove(or open) inner door located belowthe gas
controlunit.
7. Find pilot-follow metaltube from gas control.The pilot
is locatedin frontof theburner.

8. If youdon'tsmellgas,turn knobon gascontrolcounter
clockwise_ @
to "PILOT" position, ( Figure7, page17)
9, Push in control knob all the way and hold down.
Immediately lightthe pilot with a match.Continueto
hold control knob in for about one (1) minute after
the pilot is lit. Releaseknoband it will pop backup.
Pilotshouldremain lit. If it goes out, repeatsteps 3
through8.
• If knobdoesnot popup whenreleased, stop and
immediatelycall your service technicianor gas
supplier.
• If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries,
depressand turn the gascontrolknobclockwise
_ to "OFF" and call yourservice technician
or gassupplier.(Figure6, page17)
10. Replace(or close) inner door.Replaceouterdoor if
door does not covergas controlon/off knobor tem-
peratureadjustment k nob.(Figure9, page17)
11. Atarms lengthaway,turn gascontrolknobcounter-
clockwise_!(_
to thefull "ON" position. W arning
do not use gas control knob to regulate gas
flow. (Figure8, page17)
12. At arms length away,set the thermostatto desired
setting, The mark ( • ) indicative of approximate
120°Fis preferredstarting point. Some local laws
may requirea lowerstartingpoint.If hotterwater is
desired,see instruction manualand"warning" below.
13. Replace theouterdoorif not replaced in step10,

Hotterwater increasesthe risk of scald injury.Beforechangingtemperature setting see instructionmanual.
TO TURN
OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
1. Set the thermostatto lowest setting by turning the
watertemperature dial clockwise(,f_'_) to its lowest
temperature setting(with arrowon dial)as shown,DO
NOT FORCE.
2. Turngascontrolknobclockwise_V 1 to "OFF" posi-
tion. Knob cannotbe turned from "PILOT" to "OFF"
unlessknobisdepressed slightly, D O NOT FORCE.
3. Replace outerdoor(if removed).
