VII. Maintenance
An adult should perform
maintenance on this engine.
Only allow children to perform maintenance if an adult has
determined they are expedenced and capable of such
operation.
To prevent accidental startingwhen
workingon equipment always:
• Disconnect spark plug wire and keep it away from
spark plug. See "G. Avoid Accidental Starts"
instructions on page 2. See Figures 17 and 18.
• Keep the disconnected spark plug wire
securelyaway from metal parts where arcing
could occur.
• Attach the spark plug wire to the grounding
post, if provided.
• Disconnect battery at negative terminal first, if
engine is equipped with an electdc starter.
• Turn off all engine switches.
• Remove ignition key, if provided.
NOTES
When disconnecting power cord, if present (see equipment
manufacturer's instructions) always disconnect power cord
from outlet first; then disconnect switch box from engine.
See Figure 19.
When connecting power cord, always connect power cord
to switch box engine first; then into outlet. See Figure 19.

B. Carburetor
If you think your carburetor needs adjusting, see the
nearest Authorized Tecumseh Servicing Dealer. Engine
performance should not be affected at altitudes up to 7,000
feet (2,134 meters). For operation at higher elevations,
contact an Authodzed Tecumseh Servicing Dealer.

Engine Speed

To avoid serious injury or death, DO
NOT modify engine in any way.
Tampering with the governor settingcan lead to a runaway
engine and cause it to operate at unsafe speeds. NEVER
tamper with factory setting of engine governor.
Running the engine faster than the speed set at the factory
can be dangerous and will VOID THE ENGINE
WARRANTY.
