7 Troubleshooting

This chapter provides information and instructions for troubleshooting the Business Copy system.

General troubleshooting

The following table provides general troubleshooting information for Business Copy pairs.

Error
Remote Web Console hangs, or Business
Copy operations do not function properly.
The volume pairs are not displaying
correctly.
A Business Copy error message is
displayed on Remote Web Console during
an operation.
Business Copy pair status is incorrect (or
unexpected).
There is a pinned track on a Business
Copy volume.
Only the Exit and Refresh menus are
effective when accessing the SVP from
Remote Web Console.

Troubleshooting with RAID Manager

This section provides troubleshooting information for operations performed using RAID Manager.
The following describes RAID Manager error codes and instructions for using them. Also, see
"Troubleshooting the At-Time Split operation" (page
When using RAID Manager, you can identify the cause of an error by referring to either of the
following:
The log displayed on the RAID Manager window
The error code in the RAID Manager operation log file. The default location for this file is:
/HORCM/log*/curlog/horcmlog_HOST/horcm.log
where * = instance number, and, HOST = host name
To find and interpret a RAID Manager error:
Corrective Action
Make sure all Business Copy requirements and restrictions are met.
Make sure the storage system is powered on and fully functional.
Check all input values and parameters to make sure that you entered
the correct information on the Business Copy windows (such as P-VOL
and S-VOL IDs).
Make sure the correct volumes are selected.
Select the failed volume in the Preview List on the Pair Operation window,
right-click to display the menu, and then click Error Detail. See HP
StorageWorks P9000 Remote Web Console Messages for the list of error
codes and corrective actions.
The pair may have been suspended or deleted from the UNIX/PC server
host using RAID Manager. If not, the P9500 detected an error condition
during Business Copy operations. Check the Remote Web Console error
log. If necessary, call the HP Technical Support for assistance.
If a pinned track occurs on a Business Copy or S-VOL, the system will
suspend the pair. Contact HP Technical Support for assistance in recovering
pinned tracks.
The SVP might not be ready, or another user is performing write processing.
Wait and then refresh the window.
