Engine Speed
Donottamper withthegovernorsettingor thecarburetor settingto
ncreasethe enginespeed.Eachcarburetorisadjustedat the factory
Nitheithera cap or stop plateinstalledon the mixturescrew.Any
adjustments mustbe performedby a Searsor otherqualifiedservice
Jealer.
LUBRICATION
Alwaysstop engine,disconnectspark plug,and groundagainst
/
_engne beforeperformng any type of mantenanceon yourmach ne.J
Blade Control
Lubricatepivot pointson the blade controlat least oncea seasonwith
lightoil. The bladecontrol mustoperatefreelyin bothdirections.See
Figure16.
Wheels and Casters
Lubricatethe wheelsand castersat least oncea seasonwith lightoil
(or motor oil). If wheelsare removedforany reason,lubricatethe axle
boltand innersurfaceof the wheelwith lightoil. See Figure16.
Grass Catcher Adapter
Lubricatethe torsionspringand pivotpoint on eachend of thegrass
catcheradapterdoor at leastoncea seasonwith lightoil to prevent
rust. See Figure16.
Transmission
Thetransmissionis pre-lubricatedandsealedat the factoryand does
not requirelubrication.
CLEANING DECK
Cleanundersideof the mowerdeck oncea seasonto preventbuild-up
of grassclippingsor otherdebris.Followstepsbelowforthis job.
1. Disconnectsparkplug w ire.Draingasolinefromlawn m owerorplacea
pieceof plasticunderthe gas cap.
2. Tip mowersothat it restson the housing,keepingthe mufflerside
down.Hold mowerfirmly.

3. Scrapeandcleantheundersideofthedeckwithasuitabletool.Donot
spraywith water.
IMPORTANT: D o not usea pressurewasheror gardenhoseto clean
yourunit. Thesemay causedamageto bearings,or the engine.The
useof waterwill resultin shortenedlife and reduceserviceability.
4. Putthemowerbackonitswheelson theground.If youhadputplastic
underthe gas capearlier,makesureto removeit now.

REPLACING REAR FLAP
To replacerear flap, proceedas follows:
1. Cut off the flat end of thewire rodwhich securesit to thedeck.See
Figure17.
2. Attachthe newflapandnewrodtothe deck,bending theendsofthe
newrod overto secureto deck.
