4.2 Changing and Viewing Security Settings

While anyone who can open a document can view its security methods, only those with permission can
change those methods.

4.2.1 Viewing Document Encryption and Permission Settings

A document's security settings specify an encryption level (algorithm), what components are encrypted,
and permissions. The document may be subject to additional restrictions if it is signed or certified. For

To view a document's encryption settings:
1. Choose Advanced (Acrobat) or Document (Reader) > Security > Show Security Properties.
2. Choose Show Details. The settings are displayed in a dialog that varies with the security method type.
The dialog does not update until a user saves and closes the document.
