    Installation
Options
 You
have
two
basic
options
for
connecting
the
eX‐10
to
a
customer’s
factory
radio

 If
the
customer’s
car
has
a
factory
auxiliary
input,
the
 Option #1: Use the factory AUX input eX‐10’s
AUX
output
can
connect
directly
to
this
input.
 If
the
vehicle
is
so
equipped,
Option
#1
will
provide
the
 best
sound
quality.
 
Option
#2:

Use
the
KWE‐155B
antenna
splitter. Alpine
offers
an
optional
KWE‐155B
FM

 antenna
splitter
to
allow
the
eX‐10
to
be
wired
 directly
into
the
vehicle’s
factory
radio
antenna.
 This
option
provides
much
better
sound
quality
 than
using
the
eX‐10’s
built‐in
FM
transmitter.
 Here’s
what’s

with
the
eX‐10:

Input
into
the
factory
radio
 Option #1: Use the factory AUX input Purchase
a
1/8”
phono‐to‐phono
 jack
cable
to
connect
the
eX‐10
to

 the
factory
AUX
input.

Part
#
42‐2607
 from
Radio
Shack
is
a
good
example.
 Plug
one
end
of
the
cable
into
the
 vehicle’s
factory
AUX
port.
 Plug
the
other
end
of
the
1/8”
phono
cable
into

 The
“aux
out”
port
on
the
eX‐10’s
power
supply.
 Select
“AUX”
as
a
source
to
hear
iPod
or
Bluetooth
 output
from
the
vehicle’s
sound
system.

Input

the

the
Alpine
KWE‐155B
 FM
splitter.


 Remove
the
vehicle’s
 factory
radio,
and
unplug
the
 antenna
connection.
 Plug
the
factory
antenna
connector
 into
the
port
marked
“car
antenna”
 on
the
KWE‐155B
FM
splitter.
 Plug
the
antenna
lead
marked
“car
 audio”
into
the
factory
radio’s
antenna
 input.


 Route
the
lead
marked
“eX‐10”
to
the
 desired
location
for
the
eX‐10’s
power

 supply,
and
re‐install
the
factory
radio.

Mount
the
Bluetooth
microphone
 Attach
the
Bluetooth
microphone
to
the

 microphone
mounting
clip
by
pushing
 the
microphone
onto
the
clip
as
shown
 Clip
the
microphone
mount
to
a
spot
in
the
 car
no
more
than
24”
from
the
customer’s

 mouth.
 Good
locations
include
the

 sun
visor,
the
top
of
the
A‐pillar,
and
the
edge
 of
the
roof‐mounted
center
console
(if
 equipped)*
.
 Route
the
microphone
cable
to
the
desired
 location
for
the
eX‐10’s
power
supply.
 *Note:

Do
not
install
the
microphone
in
any
position
where
it
could
interfere
with
the
functionality
of
 

airbags
in
the
vehicle.

3:

Mount
the
eX‐10’s
display
 Twist
the
supplied
round
plastic
plate
to
the
 base
of
the
eX‐10’s
display,
and
attach
the
 supplied
double‐sided
tape
to
this
plate.
 Clean
the
dash
area
where
the
eX‐10’s
 display
will
be
mounted
with
the
supplied
 alcohol
pad.
 Remove
the
backing
from
the

 double‐sided
tape,
and
attach
 it
to
the
dash
by
pressing
 firmly*.
 Connect
the
monitor
cable
to
 the
display
base,
and
route
the
 monitor
cable
to
the
desired
 location
for
the
eX‐10’s
 power
supply
using
the
 supplied
cable
clamps
 *Note:

There
are
many
custom‐mounting
options
for
the
eX‐10’s
display;
refer
to
the
Alpine
Dealer
Ad
 Center
for
a
step‐by‐step
tutorial
showing
how
to
build
a
custom
A‐pillar
display
mount.

4:

Connect
the
eX‐10
to
12
volt
power
 Purchase
a
12
volt
accessory
outlet
with
a

 female
cigarette
lighter
plug,
like
this
one
 from
Radio
Shack
(Part
#270‐1556).
 Connect
the
accessory
outlet’s
power
leads
 to
a
switched
+12
volt
accessory
lead
in
the
 car,
such
as
the
factory
cigarette
lighter
 wiring.
 Screw
the
eX‐10’s
power
cable
into
the
 cigarette
lighter
adapter.
 Plug
the
accessory
outlet
into
 the
eX‐10’s
cigarette
lighter
 adapter.
 Route
the
yellow
end
of
the
 eX‐10’s
power
cable
to
the
 desired
location
for
the
eX‐10’s
 power
supply.

Install
the
iPod
cable
 Find
a
convenient,
hidden
 location
to
place
the
 customer’s
iPod,
such
as
the
 center
console
or
the
glove
 box.
 Route
the
supplied
iPod
cable
 to
the
desired
location
for
the
 eX‐10’s
power
supply.

Connect
the
eX‐10’s
power
supply
 Plug
the
monitor
cable
into
the
 port
on
the
eX‐10’s
power
supply
 marked
“monitor”.
 Plug
the
iPod
cable
into
the
port
 marked
“iPod”.
 Plug
the
“eX‐10”
output
from
 the
KWE‐155B
FM
splitter
into
 the
“antenna”
port
(unless
you
 are
using
the
“AUX
in”
option)
 Plug
the
microphone
cable
into
 the
“microphone”
port.
 Screw
the
yellow
end
of
the
 power
cord
into
the
port
 marked
“power
supply”.
 Mount
the
eX‐10’s
power
 supply
in
a
hidden
location.

Set
up
the
eX‐10
to
work
correctly

7a:

Setting
language
and
output
mode
 Connect
the
eX‐10’s
display
to
the
base
by
 pushing
down
until
you
hear
a
“click”.


Turn
on
 the
ignition
to
power
up
the
eX‐10.
 To
select
the
desired
language,
push
the
 “setup”
button,
then
use
the
>>I
button
to
 scroll
down
to
“general”.

Tap
“enter”
twice,
 then
select
your
language
using
the
I<<
and
>>I
 buttons.

Tap
“enter”
to
select.

 You’re
still
in
“setup”
mode,
so
tap
the
>>I
button
three
 times
until
you
get
to
“Output
Mode”.

Tap
“enter”,
 and
use
the
>>I
button
to
select
“Wire
Transmitter”
when
 using
the
KWE‐155B
antenna
splitter,
or
“Aux”
when
using
 the
eX‐10’s
auxiliary
output.
 Now,
tap
the











button
to
get
back
to
the
“
Setup”
 menu.

Set
up
the
eX‐10
to
work
correctly

When
using
“Option
#1”
(AUX
input)
skip
step

Setting
the
FM
transmitter
frequency
 Tune
the
car
radio
to
an
FM
frequency
where
 there
is
no
radio
reception
(for
example,
 104.7).


 Save
this
as
a
preset;
that
way
the
customer
 can
select
the
preset
station
to
listen
to
iPod
or
 Bluetooth
sound
from
the
eX‐10.
 Select
“Transmitter”
from
the
eX‐10’s
“setup”
 menu,
then
press
and
hold
“enter”
for
two
 seconds.

Use
the
>>I
and
I<<
buttons
to
select
the
 same
frequency
that
was
preset
into
the
car’s
 radio
(for
example
104.7).


 Press
“enter”
to
set
this
frequency
as
a
preset
in
 the
eX‐10.

Set
up
your
customer’s
Bluetooth
phone
to
work
with
the
eX‐10
 Tap
the
“setup”
button,
and
press
“enter”
to
 select
“Bluetooth”.

Press
“enter”
again
to
 select
“pairing
mode”,
and
a
four‐digit
pass
 code
will
be
displayed
on
the
eX‐10.
 The
eX‐10
is
now
discoverable
and
ready
to
 connect
to
your
customer’s
Bluetooth
phone.



 Turn
on
Bluetooth
in
the
phone’s
menu.

The
phone
 will
ask
for
a
four‐digit
code
to
connect
with
the
eX‐10,
 so
enter
the
code
shown
on
the
eX‐10’s
screen.
 You
will
now
see
a
“connected”
message
on
your
 phone
to
let
you
know
that
you’ve
successfully
paired
 your
phone
with
the
eX‐10*
 Once
this
is
done,
use
the
>>I
button
to
scroll
down
to
 “HFP
Speaker”.

Select
“External”
to
have
Bluetooth
 audio
play
through
the
sound
system,
or
“Internal”
to
 have
it
play
through
the
eX‐10’s
built‐in
speaker.
 Now
we’re
all
set
up,
so
let’s
use
the
eX‐10>>>
 *Note:

Turn
“Auto
Connect”
on
in
the
Bluetooth
setup
menu
if
you
want
your
phone
to
automatically
connect
to
your
eX‐10
whenever
you
turn
 Page 12 on
your
car’s
ignition.

Selecting
between
car
radio
and
eX‐10
mode
(Note:

not
applicable
when
using
 “Option
#1”
(AUX
input).)
 Use
the










button
to
exit
the
“setup”
menu.


 When
playing
a
source
on
the
eX‐10
using
the
 KWE‐155B
FM
antenna
splitter,
you
must
 switch
the
antenna
splitter
to
eX‐10
mode.

 This
can
be
done
by
pressing
the
“Func.”
 button
for
two
seconds.

“eX‐10”
will
show
in
 the
bottom
left
corner
of
the
screen.
 When
you
want
to
listen
to
the
car’s
FM
radio,
simply
 press
and
hold
“func.”
for
two
seconds
to
switch

 the
antenna
splitter
to
“car
antenna”
mode.


 “Car
Antenna”
will
show
on
the
bottom
left
corner
 of
the
screen.

Playing
songs
from
the
iPod
 Press
“source”
to
select
“iPod”.

 Press
the
“enter”
button,
then
use
the
>>I
and
 I<<
buttons
to
search
by
artist,
album,
song,
 etc.

Tap
“enter”
to
choose
any
search
method,
 using
the
>>I
and
I<<
buttons
to
select
a
song.


 Pressing
“enter”
will
begin
song
playback.



 With
the
song
playing,
you
should
now
see
the
 iPod’s
album
art
displayed
on
the
eX‐10
screen.*

 Press
the
“view”
button
to
scroll
between
the
 three
different
display
modes.
 You
can
also
choose
the
display
background
that
 best
matches
your
dash
by
selecting
“display”
in
 the
“setup”
menu,
then
“BGV
select”.

calls

 Press

use
the

select
“Phonebook”.

Press
“enter”,
then

the

buttons
to
find
the
desired
 contact
in
the
phone
book.

Press

 again
to
dial
the
number.

You
may
also
select
 numbers
from
the
dialed,
received,
or
missed
calls
 lists
using
this
method.

hear
the
phone
dialing
through
your
 car’s
stereo
system.
