A FINE Cartridge is not seated properly/
A FINE Cartridge is empty

Print head nozzles clogged or shifted

Back of Paper is Smudged/Paper Does Not Feed Properly/Printed
Surface is Scratched
Possible Cause
Paper thickness lever position is not
proper
Adjust the contrast of the LCD in the Adjust contrast
settings. See "Changing the Other Settings" on page 30.

The LCD may be in the sleep mode.
Press the OK
OK button to turn on the LCD again.

* If you leave the printer more than five minutes without using any button on
the operation panel, the LCD goes into the sleep mode automatically.
• Open the front cover first and then press up the FINE Cartridge to install it properly.
• Ensure that the specified FINE Cartridge is installed. If the specified FINE Cartridge is
not used, good printing color quality cannot be expected.
See "Replacing a FINE Cartridge" on page 54.
On the operation panel, confirm that the media type selected matches the paper
loaded.
Print the nozzle check pattern to check for uneven ink output.
When a specific color is missing from the nozzle check pattern, clean the print head.
• If ink supply is uneven: See "Print Head Cleaning" on page 51.
• If straight lines are shifted: See "Aligning Print Head - Auto head align" on page 53.
Check that your paper is loaded with the correct print side facing up.
Note
Follow the instructions packaged with your specialty media for loading and handling.
Set the paper thickness lever to the left position.
If the paper is scratched even when printing on plain paper, set the paper thickness
lever to the right position.
Return the paper thickness lever to the left after printing.
