When a ServeRAID boot CD is used on a machine is an LSI chipset a
warning message is initially displayed implying that the card may be bad. This
can be ignored; it is simply warning you that it cannot update the LSI
firmware.
The lowest version of ServeRAID controller firmware that can reliably be used
in the x455 (also x455 and x382) is V6.10. At the time of writing there was an
issue with flashing lower versions in these machine. The recommended way
to upgrade the version of firmware is to put the controller in an IA-32 machine,
flash it, then replace in the x455. For more information, see RETAIN® tip

The LSI Logic RAID-1 is not compatible with ServeRAID RAID-1. Therefore, if
the operating system is installed on drives connected to the integrated LSI
chipset, the operating system will need to be reinstalled should the customer
decide to move to a ServeRAID adapter. For more information, see RETAIN

Booting from Fibre Channel
At the time of writing, booting from a Fibre Channel-attached disk was not
supported.
4.1.4 Flash update
As part of your installation procedure, we recommend that you check the
firmware levels and update to the most current revision. Typical components that
may need upgrading are:
System EFI/SAL (equivalent to BIOS on IA-32 systems)
Onboard diagnostics
Remote Supervisor Adapter
Additional devices if installed, such as ServeRAID adapters and FAStT host
bus adapters
We recommend that you update both the EFI/SAL and Diagnostics at the same
time if new versions are available for both. Always check the readme.txt file (the
actual name is usually the same as the update executable) to check if there are
any prerequisites.
